Where vendor and vendee combine practical philanthropy to help fund actions to enjoy, protect, and restore the Mahurangi
First-ever anthology of early botanical paintings and drawings of New Zealand indigenous plants covers the period from Captain James Cook’s first voyage in 1769 to the publication of Cheeseman’s Illustrations of the New Zealand Flora in 1914. By this time about half of the native ferns, conifers and flowering plants had been illustrated, although many of these were never published. Sampson has researched the journals and diaries of explorers, botanists and early settlers, and many botanical publications, to produce a botanically informative work, rich in biographical detail.
